Making Asset Management Clearer, One Page at a Time
Rahul Shenoy, our Asset Engineer, recently put our thinking to the test in a national spotlight. He submitted a one-page summary of a full Activity Management Plan (AMP) to the Āpōpō Congress 2025 poster competition — and in doing so, showcased how complex infrastructure planning can be translated into simple, strategic storytelling.
This wasn’t just a design challenge. It was a chance to reimagine how we talk about public investment.
Why One Page?
AMPS are typically large, technical documents — 50 to 200pages long. But the decisions they underpin affect everyone. For Marlborough District Council / Marlborough Roads, we had already developed a full Transport Asset Management Plan. Rahul’s task was to distill that story down to a single page that would resonate with decision-makers, customers, and communities alike.
The outcome? A smart, focused one-pager using Treasury’s Five Case Model — a structure that helped bring clarity to why the investment matters and what outcomes it delivers.
Breaking It Down: One Story
Here’s how Rahul approached it:
The poster made it clear that AMPs aren’t just about investment — they’re about delivering outcomes that communities care about. And they should be communicated that way.
The Power of Trusted Evidence
Insights from REG Te Ringa Maimoa were key in backing up the case for funding. Their data helped reinforce the urgency and scale of the challenges we’re solving for.
Simple, Clear, Purposeful
What this exercise reminded us: great asset management isn’t just about great plans. It’s about making them accessible. Turning 100 pages into 1 doesn’t lose meaning — it sharpens it.
